Daughtry - Leave This Town [2009]

Tras cantar "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" de Fuel durante la 4ª gala de la 5 edición de American Idol, la fama de Chris Daughtry subió como la espuma. En ese momento Fuel se encontraba sin cantante tras la marcha de Brett Scallions y muchos, incluido el líder de la banda, Carl Bell, vieron en él un posible sucesor.
Tras ser eliminado del concurso en el Top 4, decidió declinar la oferta para formar su propia banda, "Daughtry", todo un acierto después de ver como se desarrollaron los acontecimientos para Fuel.
Con su primer álbum, "Daughtry", llegaron al numero 1 en el Billboard 200 y en el Billboard Top Rock Albums y los singles "It's Not Over", "Home" y "Feels Like Tonight" llegaron al número 1 en el Hot Adult Top 40.
3 años después volvieron con "Leave This Town", que hasta el momento deja 3 singles ("No Surprise", de nuevo numero uno en el Top 40; "Life After You", que llego al puesto 4 y "September", que fue lanzado el 1 de Junio de 2010, llegando al puesto 11 hasta el momento.)

· You Don`t Belong. Empieza fuerte el disco. El inicio me recuerda bastante a Creed o Crossfade, aunque en este último caso seguramente le habría seguido un grito. En su lugar, entra la guitarra y la inconfundible voz de Chris.

· No Surprise. La primera vez que la escuché, pensaba que ya lo había hecho antes. De esas canciones que entran fácil. Primer single, y lógica elección.

"Our favorite place we used to go
The warm embrace that no one knows
The lovin' look that's left your eyes
That's why this comes as no..
as no surprise"

· Every Time You Turn Around. Me encanta como trasmite. Realmente parece cabreado en esta canción.

"I've been good, I been doin' what I should
Workin' hard to make a world that we can live in
I been strong, I been holding out so long
And I don't you to forget that you're forgiven"

· Life After You. Segundo single. Esta vez para demostrar el lado suave de la banda. Medio tiempo. Dificil olvidarse de esta canción.

"You and I, right or wrong, there's no other one
After this time I spent alone
It's hard to believe that a man with sight could be so blind
Thinkin' 'bout the better times, must've been outta my mind
So I'm runnin' back to tell you"

· What I Meant To Say. Me encantaría que Rob Thomas le escribiera una canción. No se porque, creo que sonaría parecido a esto.

"I'm strong enough to say
That I don't wanna take the high road now
So typical of you to walk away
When your perfect little world is burning down"

· Open Up Your Eyes. A mi juicio, la mejor canción del álbum. Lento inicio, cambiando al llegar al estribillo. Desgarradora la voz de Daughtry, tremenda letra.

"Seems it's only been a moment
Since the angels took him from her arms
And she was left there holding on to their tomorrow
But as they laid him in the ground
Her heart would sing without a sound"

"For the first time you can open your eyes
And see the world without your sorrow
Where no one knows the pain you left behind
And all the peace you could never find

· September. Otra gran canción. Muy bien colocadas las canciones, nunca sientes un bajón como con otros discos. De nuevo una balada y una letra preciosa. Como cambia la canción hacia el final, increible.

"Of all the things I still remember
Summer's never looked the same
The years go by and time just seems to fly by
But the memories remain

In the middle of September we'd still play out in the rain
Nothing to lose but everything to gain
Reflecting now on how things could've been
It was worth it in the end"

· Ghost Of Me.  Me encanta el estribillo, el ritmo... El final de nuevo...

"Don't look over your shoulder
'Cause that's just the ghost of me
You're seein'
Wait, there's no rhyme or reason

Sometimes there's no meaning
In the visions when you're sleepin'
Don't wake up and believe them
Visions when you're sleepin'

· Learn My Lesson. Otra canción más al bote. Sigo pensando que lo más importante es el sentimiento. Te lo crees...

"Sometimes I think I'm better off
To turn out the lights and close up shop
And give up the longing, believing in belonging
Just hold down my head and take the loss"

· Supernatural. El inicio desencaja. Me recuerda a "Into the Night" de Santana y Chad Kroeger.

"Every step I've taken has led me here to where you are
But all that I believe in is keeping me from seeing too far
Throwing out the questions, waiting for the right reply
Looking for the answers, tell me will it be tonight?"

· Tennessee Line. Acústica. Tremenda. Te transporta al sur de los Estados Unidos. Canta con Vince Gill.

"On my way to L.A. looking into the rear view as the roads fade away
I've sworn off my past, first to last bad call that I ever made
Tell me how to make right every wrong turn that I've learned?
So this can all end tonight
Tennessee line just changed my mind, well it's my heart I'll follow this time"

· Call Your Name. De nuevo acompañado de su guitarra acústica. Un fin perfecto para un disco realmente bueno.

"You never said, you never said, you never said
That it would be this hard
Love is meant to be forever, now or never seems to discard
There's gotta be a better way for me to say
What's on my heart without leaving scars?
Can you hear me when I call your name?"

Y para finalizar, decir que todas las canciones están compuestas por Chris Daughtry, en algunas con la colaboración de Chad Kroeger, Ben Moody o los miembros de la banda.

Train - Save Me San Francisco [2009]

Nunca creí que este momento iba a llegar, pero lo hizo: Train salían en la tele y en la radio, pero no en una tele o radio americana cualquiera, no, eso no tendría merito. España. Eso sí... pero claro, ahora hay cosas positivas y negativas.

Positivas? Los conoce más gente y eso siempre es bueno, siempre y cuando la banda no se estanque y busque hacer lo mismo una y otra vez (leerá esto Bon Jovi?), porque significará más posibilidades a la hora de sacar nuevos discos, mas tours...
Negativo? La masa es idiota. Creo que lo dijo alguien, pero por una vez en mi vida, no me apetece buscarlo el Google... Ahora todo el mundo es fan de Train... "Claro, si son bueniiiiiísimos... 'Hey, Soul Sister', no?". Si, y "Drops of Jupiter" y "Cab" y "Let it Roll" y "All I Ever Wanted" y... en fin, cosas de "fans"...

Buen disco, completo. De primeras se hace raro, quizá melodías demasiado animadas, pero poco a poco te haces con él y finalmente no puedes para de escucharlo.

· Save Me San Francisco. Primer corte y, como decía, suena raro empezar tan animados. No es el mejor corte del album, pero te encontrarás cantandola si dejas que entre en ti. Será el 3er single.

· Hey Soul Sister. La segunda que menos me gustaba del disco. Lo admito, no tengo problema. Fui abducido por mi mismo, tanto escuchar el cd hizo que me la supiese de memoria. Luego el video hizo que me interesase por la letra un poco más y, finalmente, salió en la radio. Melodía pegadiza, la voz típica de Monahan. Era lógico que triunfara en España...

 · I Got You. Nueva melodia pegadiza, que no pegajosa. Me encantan los cambios de tono, de ritmo...

"Gimme lazy days with nothing better to do

I don't care if it rains, I'll be just fine,
I'm leaving the ghosts behind until I got you I got you"

 · Parachute. La primera vez que escuchas el cd dices "Por fin!". Es lo que esperas de Train, este tipo de canciones, tristes y con ese puntito de que todo va a salir bien. Increible canción que debería haber sido single (o serlo). Merece un video épico.

"And if it feels like we might drop
it will stop
so don't look down
it wouldn't be the same without you
this life is too good to give up on" 

· This Ain´t Goodbye. Continuamos con otra canción increible. Cuando Pat Monahan canta así es dificil resistirse. Ese piano de fondo, la atmosfera... Perfecta.

"You and I were friends from outer space
Afraid to let go
The only two who understood this place
And as far as we know"

· If It's Love. 2º single tras "Hey Soul Sister". De esas canciones que cambian el ritmo y te puede encantar una parte y la otra no tanto, pero se complementan. Quizá mejor como primer single para dar paso a "Parachute" o "This Ain't Goodbye" como segundo.

· You Already Know. Woo! No se como explicarlo, pero esta canción eleva el volumen de la radio del coche por 10. Cantando, bailando como bailamos los que movemos sólo la cabeza, cantando hasta quedar ronco... La mejor canción del album.

"Get on your way to making someone else feel low
Then higher than they ever thought they could go
You already know"

"I was the shoulder you leaned on
You made me feel like the next James Bond
Double O seven oh hell, you were heaven to me" 

· Words. Una muy buena canción. Bien estructurado el disco hasta el momento, sin bajones. Coros y una letra como siempre: genial.

"Underneath every word somebody's heart been broken
With or without words we try to forget

Words they'll try to shake us
Don't let them break us
Or stop our world from turning"

· Brick by Brick. Sigue el nivel. 

"All the pictures that we've taken
and the songs that we have played
They have all kept track and
followed back the love that we have made.
Now they're spread out on the
surface where we can try to congregate
It's not too late to believe that we can get it all again"

· Breakfast in Bed. Alguna canción tenía que haber que no me gustase. Rompe totalmente el ritmo, Pat Monahan casi susurrando... Lo mejor: la música del final.

· Marry Me. Deja buen sabor de boca como canción final. Sobre todo después de "Breakfast in Bed".

Vertical Horizon - Burning The Days [2009]

6 años después de "Go" (4 si contamos el re-reselease "Go 2.0"), volvían Matt Scannell (vocalista y guitarra principal) y Keith Kane (guitarra, voces), quedando el resto de miembros en el camino, uniendoseles Jason Sutter (batería) y Corey McCormick (bajo y voces). Lo hacían con "Burning The Days" recibiendo una buena crítica.
Ahora me toca a mi.
La primera vez que lo escuché me di cuenta de que era totalmente distinto a "Go" y quizá por eso cuesta un poco más que entre en la cabeza. "Go" tiene para mi unas cuantas de las mejores baladas que he escuchado y se me hacía raro escuchar esa vuelta a "Everything You Want".

• All is Said and Done. La voz, la guitarra... enseguida te das cuenta de que escuchas a "Vertical Horizon". Una melodía envolvente, la guitarra entrando antes del estribillo, un ligero cambio de ritmo (soy fan) y una letra maravillosa (marca de la casa).

"Oh baby are you sad
When you see the sun?
'Cause then you're not the brightest one"

• Lucky One. Continuación perfecta, nos mantiene en el mismo estado, sonando algo más positiva que la anterior.

"I volunteer to watch you
through the dreams that haunt you
I promise to wake you
before the fear takes you"

• Middle Ground. El estribillo se te mete sin remedio en la cabeza. La guitarra la tendrás metida sin remedio durante días y cuando te levantes después de dormir te encontrarás tarareando esto:

"Take me in, or just take me out
Put me on if you must, or just put me down
'cause I'm done, I'm all worn out
We're either alive or a lie
I'm done with the middle ground."

• I Believe In You. Si quieres demostrarle a alguien como suena "Vertical Horizon" y sólo te deja ponerle una canción de este disco, esta es la tuya. 
• Save Me From Myself. Me encanta la guitarra y el estribillo de esta canción, pero lo mejor es el puente...

"Your eyes fall

It’s all just cinder

•  Carrying On. Podría haber encajado perfectamente en "Go". Si la voz fuera de Rea Garvey, sería Reamonn total...

"Why

• Back To You. Llegamos al pico del album. Probablemente una de las mejores canciones. Muy "Everything You Want".

"All of your kindness
All of your blindness
I hope you realize this
It’s all coming back"

• Can You Help Me. Quizás la canción más floja del disco, pero no por eso una mala canción...
• Afterglow. No encuentro palabras para definir esta canción. Típica de VH, nunca será un hit, pero será de las que queden en la memoria...
• Here. Una canción sin estribillo. Demasiado tranquila.
• Welcome to the Bottom. Empieza la canción y crees que las 2 canciones que quedan ya son de relleno. Poco a poco va mejorando, entran voces de fondo, la batería, la guitarra y te das cuenta de que no, aún quedan cosas por decir.

• Even Now. La última canción, colocada para dejarte un muy buen sabor de boca, cuando quieres volver a escuchar el cd entero, cuando quieres verlos en directo y te das cuenta que se te ha hecho corto, te ha sabido a poco y esperas con impaciencia que pasen otros 3 o 4 años (esperemos que menos) para tener algo nuevo... Eres fan...

Muse - The Resistance [2009]

Antes de nada, no soy fan de Muse, apenas había escuchado antes un par de canciones: Time is Running Out y Feeling Good, y ambas me gustaban. Con esta aclaración, me dispongo a escuchar el cd y a ver que tal...

• Uprising. Una buena forma de empezar el disco.
  
• Resistance. Me parece mejor canción que la anterior, podría ser single perfectamente.
  
• Undisclosed Desires. No me gusta para nada el ritmo de esta canción. Demasiado cercano a esos ritmos prediseñados de Timbaland... La primera vez que la escuche fue de fondo mientras me quedaba dormido y pensaba que era Junstin Timberlake...
  
• United States of Eurasia / Collateral Damage. Cambios de ritmo, un montón de melodias diferentes... Recordando al clásico de Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody" (entre comillas...)
  
• Guiding Light. El principio recuerda a "Hymn" de Ultravox. Se hace demasiado larga.
  
• Unnatural Selection. Otra de las mejores canciones del album. Nuevamente Muse hace gala de constantes cambios de ritmo.
  
• MK Ultra. La canción más parecida a lo que esperaba encontrarme. Me suena mucho más al Muse que conocía.
  
• I Belong to You / Mon Cœur S'ouvre À Ta Voix. Dos canciones en una, es como si vieras una obra de teatro. Epico.
  
• Exogenesis: Symphony, Part 1: Overture. Aquí se inicia otro disco, nada que ver con los anteriores cortes. Muse rompe con lo anterior y nos brinda una opera.
  
• Exogenesis: Symphony, Part 2: Cross-Pollination. Muy buena canción. Perfectamente podría haber sido otro disco.
  
• Exogenesis: Symphony, Part 3: Redemption. Y para finalizar, transportarte a otro lugar.

 En definitiva, buen disco de Muse, aunque para mi gusto no demasiado homogeneo.

Better Than Ezra - Paper Empire [2009]

• Absolutely Still. Una de las mejores canciones del album, si no la mejor. Al más puro estilo "Better Than Ezra". Ambiental, melódica, de esas canciones que se te quedan en la cabeza a la primera escucha.

• Turn Up The Bright Lights. Continuamos en la linea que marca "Absolutely Still" con otra gran canción. Me recuerda ligeramente a "Black Lab" el algunos momentos.

• Just One Day. No baja el nivel del disco, si acaso, sube con esta canción. Un medio tiempo al que nos tienen tan bien acostumbrados, la especialidad de la casa.

• The Loveless. Sube el ritmo, baja el nivel. Una canción que puede resultar bastante tediosa.

• All In. Mejora sensiblemente con respecto a la anterior canción, pero lo mejor se queda en el estribillo.

• Fit. Aunque mejora y vuelve la atmosfera envolvente, le falta algo para enganchar definitivamente.

• Hell No!. Nunca me han gustado las modulaciones de voz, esos efectos roboticos... No aporta nada esta canción al disco, rompe la mejoría que volvía con "Fit" y no engancha para nada con "Hey Love".

• Hey Love. El orden de las canciones en el disco me descoloca bastante. Preciosa balada en medio de dos canciones bastante prescindibles.

• Nightclubbing. La canción con más ritmo del disco, no alcanza el nivel de los medios tiempos de "Better Than Ezra", pero mejora considerablemente.

• Black Light. Buena canción, buen ritmo. Ahora si hay una continuación de estilo (aunque parece que estemos escuchando un disco distinto ahora que al comienzo...)

• Wounded. Mi favorita y, como no, una balada-medio tiempo, como he dicho antes, la especialidad de "Better Than Ezra".

• I Just Knew. Una canción muy lenta para cerrar, dejandote con un buen sabor de boca final...
